Upsell is Not a Dirty Word

22 March 2017 By LA 2 Comments

tips to increase salesWhen you hear the term Up-sell does it invoke an image of an unsavory salesman trying to con you into something more expensive?

Up-sell is not a dirty word. It is a marketing term for the practice of suggesting higher priced or additional products or services to a customer who is considering a purchase.

Rarely do you escape a fast food drive-in without being asked if you would “like to super-size that?” Servers are taught to ask restaurant patrons “Are you ready for dessert or do you want to take any sauces home with you today?” It’s an acceptable practice. The power of suggestion is incredibly influential. Spontaneous add-ons are generally win/win for both the patron and the business. [Read more…] about Upsell is Not a Dirty Word

How To Respond to “What Do You Do?”

19 March 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

what do you do?

As a Scentsy consultant, do you look forward to or dread the question when asked “What do you do?” as it pertains to your  work or profession?

If you love this question, I venture to guess you’re doing well with your Scentsy business. You’re realizing success because you have the passion and drive to make it work, or you’ve simply figured out a way to respond to that question in a way that is contagious so that others want to know more.

If you dread this question, it’s probably because you’re just not sure what to say. Am I right?

Let’s say for the past x years you’ve been a stay at home mom or you work at an office or a store. Now, in addition to that you’ve also started a Scentsy business. You may not even look at it as that. You may be thinking, “I joined Scentsy, but I didn’t start a business.” If any of the above applies to you, read on.

This mindset may be part of your problem.

If you joined Scentsy as an independent consultant, you actually did start a business – whether or not you think of it that way and regardless of how many hours a week you put into it or how much revenue you’re bringing in. You’re a business owner. [Read more…] about How To Respond to “What Do You Do?”

Does Door Advertising Really Work?

14 March 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

are advertising door hangers effective?Does the practice of hanging catalogs on neighborhood doors to promote your direct sales business really work? Or is it just a waste of time and money?

One rule of thumb to keep in mind when you are trying different marketing techniques is whether or not you acted on a similar campaign.

  • For example, have you ever made a purchase off of any ad you saw on someone’s vehicle? (I have not).
  • Have you ever taken advantage of an offer that was hung on your door (I have not) or did it likely go straight into the trash or blow away in the wind or eventually get soggy with rain?
  • Do you often read and act upon fliers you find around town? (I do not).

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but I would caution you to target your marketing to a particular segment (new moms, elderly, college kids, empty nesters, nail salons, doctors offices, etc.). Then relay your message to that market in a method they will respond to. [Read more…] about Does Door Advertising Really Work?

Handwritten Marketing is Unprofessional

7 March 2017 By LA 3 Comments

If you’re an independent direct sales consultant, you’re a business owner. Professionalism is a must if you want to succeed.

Handwritten marketing is unprofessionalOne of my favorite acronyms to remember in business is RYBLAB: Run Your Business Like a Business.

The only time handwriting is appropriate in business is a personal thank you note.

All other marketing should be typewritten using labels, ink stamps or not good but acceptable, typed up labels printed off the computer then carefully cut out and taped.

Marketing that should never be handwritten: Contact info on catalogs, business cards, samples, table displays, and signage.

Should I Change My Scentsy Name?

22 November 2016 By LA Leave a Comment

how to change my scentsyQ: I’m thinking about changing my team name and/or URL to my Scentsy website. What do you think?

A: Before deciding if it’s a good or bad idea, there are a couple of factors you should consider:

  1. Have you already ordered marketing collateral – business cards, product labels, ink stamps with your current name/URL? If so, have you distributed them far and wide?
  2. How long have you had your current name/URL? If you’ve had it for a long time, have you marketed it heavily online? Will customers get dead links if they find you online?
  3. Dead links – social media links are easy enough to change. But do you have a blog, videos or other medium that may not be as easy to change?
  4. WHY do you want to change it? If you just don’t like it, think long and hard before changing it. If it is not serving you well, if you aren’t currently getting much traffic from it, if you are evolving and think a new name or URL will serve you better, then by all means, go for it.

Life is dynamic, and so should your business be. We have to be flexible and change if it’s a change for the good. If it’s a change just for the sake of change, it can hurt your business.

Consider wisely; then act accordingly.
