Growing Your Business

18 July 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

I saw the following come through on my LinkedIn newsfeed. It was posted by Sheronde Glover, M.ED. It is so applicable to our business that I wanted to share.

Quotes about taking risksEntrepreneur Growing Pains Hurt

If you think starting a business is hard or challenging, then try growing one. Ouch! I want to share a few “musts” for moving past your pain points when it comes to growing your business.

You must be willing to make TOUGH decisions.

You must be willing to PIVOT when required.

You must take ACTION consistently. Momentum breeds results.

You must be willing to ASK for help. [Read more…] about Growing Your Business

Get Back On the Horse

14 July 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

It’s 14 July and I my last blog post is from 11 July. So much for my commitment to blog every single day. Shall I just quit?

creating new habitsNo of course, I’m not going to give up. I’m not even going to beat myself up about it because I haven’t keep my commitment to myself, because some days I blogged twice, and I even have a couple posts scheduled to publish next week. I’ll just get back on the horse, starting right now.

Regardless of the justification, I still fell short in my commitment to blog every single day for 30 days.

But guess what? Life happens.

Today I spent a large chunk of my work day working on my website. Did you notice any little tweaks? As part of the Amazing Website Bundle I told you about the other day, Kelly McCausey was offering free website critiques. She offered a few suggestions and I agreed they would be good, so that’s what I worked on today.  [Read more…] about Get Back On the Horse

Million Dollar Maverick

6 July 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

Book Recommendation: Million Dollar Maverick – Forge Your Own Path to Think Differently, Act Decisively, and Succeed Quickly by Alan Weiss, PhDMillion Dollar Maverick, Alan Weiss

I am reading a book right now that I think EVERY entrepreneur should read. I’m not done reading it, yet I wanted to share it with you right away. I checked out a copy from my local library and I will be purchasing it for my personal library.

This book contains ten chapters on being different to stand out, losing the fear of failure, gaining influence, critical thinking skills, improving self-esteem, understand the difference between pain and suffering, control over our careers and being shameless in taking credits, effective use of language for business and life, examples of innovations such as “perpetual motion attraction machines”, and feeling comfortable in your own skin (e.g., no guilt, no fear). You can read other reviews of this book here.

Why I Love This Book

I love Million Dollar Maverick because it stresses the point to stand out, to be different from all the others, and do it without fear. In direct sales, I see so very many independent consultants who aren’t acting very independent.  They’re part of the herd. Those who separate themselves from the pack are realizing amazing success.

If you only read one book this year, let it be this one. It’s also available in audio if you prefer that medium.

Why Are You Sabotaging Your Business?

23 May 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

Every day on social media I see Scentsy consultants who are self-sabotaging their business. I don’t know if they’re afraid to succeed or if they genuinely don’t want to succeed.

For the purpose of this post, I am referring success in the sense of Scentsy consultants who say they want to build a business, to lead a team and reach top ranks.

These are also the same consultants who are struggling in their business but say they are trying. They say they’ve done everything they can and yet it’s still not coming together for them. I disagree. Remember there is no try, you either do it or you don’t. If they truly did everything they wouldn’t be struggling.

One person is not solely responsible for what all their team members do or don’t do. One person can’t make any team member sell or recruit if those team members don’t choose to. However, if that one person feels he or she has a team that is mainly comprised of personal or very part time users, then one person can get more team members.

Get More Team Members

Wouldn’t it be nice if it were as easy as going to the store to get more team members?  I’m not suggesting it is easy; but it is simple. With laser focus on sponsoring activities and monthly recruiting goals, one person can build and rebuild the team, regardless of inaction the rest of the existing team may be doing. What Are You Doing to Sharpen the Saw?

9 March 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

The term “Sharpen the Saw” comes from author Steven Covey’s Habit #7 in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” He uses the analogy of a woodcutter who is sawing for several days straight and is becoming less and less productive. The process of cutting dulls the blade. So the solution is to periodically sharpen the saw.

What are you doing to sharpen the saw of your direct sales business?

Facebook groups and pages are full of ideas on recruiting, host coaching, vendor events, theme parties and all sorts of fun ideas on how to run your direct selling business. Yet those topics don’t necessarily do anything to sharpen the saw of the consultant.

It saddens me when I read posts, ad nauseam, that wail, “My sponsor isn’t helping me.” I often question what exactly that means. Does it mean you call her and she doesn’t return calls? You email and she doesn’t return emails? You ask her questions at meetings and she stares blankly into space?Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw

More importantly in some cases, is what have you done to help yourself lately?

Are you reading nonfiction business books? Don’t have time? Perhaps more likely you don’t choose to make time. Besides, with the advent of audio books and podcasts, is there really any excuse not to read?

What blogs do you regularly read or YouTube channels do you regularly watch? Do you know everything there is about marketing your business? Internet marketing? Networking (and this doesn’t mean hanging out on Facebook but true effective networking)? Do you have an expert level grasp on SEO? [Read more…] about What Are You Doing to Sharpen the Saw?
