Tips for Scentsy consultants on building their Scentsy business

Tips for Scentsy consultants on building their Scentsy business

This Diet Doesn’t Work

8 July 2019 By LA Leave a Comment

“I work out once a week, and I don’t drink that much soda anymore, yet I’m not losing any weight! This diet doesn’t work.”

If someone said the above to you, it would be obvious that the diet was not the problem.

Yet some consultants will join Scentsy, get their starter kit, maybe tell some family and friends about it (their warm market) and then figure some social media blasts ought to give them good results.

Find a Scentsy Sponsor

Then after only a few short months they’ll inaccurately proclaim, “Scentsy didn’t work.” Or some have even suggested they felt duped by their sponsor because “it is not fun nor easy for them.”

REAL TALK

There’s nothing wrong with the direct sales selling model. It’s not that Scentsy doesn’t work, it’s that the consultant isn’t working it. Or certainly not working it as intended.

Is being a Scentsy consultant fun? It certainly can be. Is it easy? No, or everyone would be doing it. But it is an easy sell, providing the consultant is doing the work, and sharing it with others and asking for the business.

Just like a diet or exercise, or anything else that can give good results, it requires consistency and dedication. Those who put in part time effort will get, at best, only part time results.

Before you decide Scentsy isn’t for you, be honest with yourself and determine if maybe you’re only working out once a week and just having a little bit of soda. If you need help, support, encouragement, training, then reach out to your upline. That’s what they’re there for.

Years ago my mom and I saw exercise guru Richard Simmons when he came to Grand Rapids to do some motivational speaking and a community exercise session. If you don’t know who he is, ask your mom, or look him up.

Anyway, one thing he said has never left me, “It took you more than ten M&Ms to get those thighs. It’s going to take more than ten leg lifts to get rid of them!”

You can do it! Keep Going! Do another set of ten!

Home Business Jigsaw Puzzle Connection

Similarities Between Putting the Pieces of a Jigsaw Puzzle Together and Being a Scentsy Consultant

home business tipsProblem Solving

I know that I need a black flat piece with an innie on the left and an outtie on the right. Now all I have to do it find that piece. I have to actively look for it. Also whether I’m working on my Scentsy website or overcoming prospect objections, I have to actively look for exactly what I need.

Perseverance

Just one more piece; I just need to find the one with the pink tip, and then I can stop. How many times, as home business owners do we find ourselves working on something but we stop before we complete the task? We need to keep on keeping on until we find that one piece we are looking for.

Sharpen the Saw

Ever look into a pile of puzzle pieces, pick one up and set it exactly where it belongs, almost instantly? I have. It’s a very satisfying feeling to accomplish that. Working on jigsaw puzzles sharpens your hand eye coordination that can be used in many areas of your business.

Do What You Love

I enjoy putting together jigsaw puzzles. That’s why I do them. I know many people who are not “puzzle people.” If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, why do it? Same goes for your chosen vocation or business you choose to work from home.

Okay, I have to go now because I have a small pile of black and white checked pieces for me to meld together. I think it’s a pair of chef’s pants, but I’ll let you know for sure.

Who Are You Following?

20 September 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

If You Want to Be Successful, Do What Successful People Do.

Are you hanging out with other successful consultants? Are they really successful? Or do they appear successful?

True, few us really know what kind of numbers others are actually pulling, but there are a couple clues to give you an indication.

  • Those who are the most successful are not spending a ton of time hanging out with other consultants, especially those who aren’t on their team. Instead, they’re off elsewhere, working one on one with new and potential team members, hosts and customers.
  • Those who are most successful don’t announce they are doing fabulous – they just are.

Club #Hashtag

I see consultants clamoring to be part of a #hashtag group of people. I’d rather clamor to set myself apart and be noticeable as a stand-alone instead of following others in a crowd.

Well That’s Not Quite Accurate, Is It?

I see consultants both online and in person who project themselves are pretty darn successful, but in reality, they should be focused on their own business before hailing themselves as one to follow. And I get it. You certainly don’t want to share that you suck or your business is going in the toilet. And I get the idea of dress for the part you want, not what you currently have.

However, I know for certain some consultants who aren’t getting the results they’d have others believe.

The Solution

How are you to know who are the ones really kickin’ it and who are the wanna-bes? Well, you could ask privately if they’re willing to share actual results. Or you could just not follow others or hang out with other consultants. Instead, be your own person. Take advantage of your company training center for advice, wisdom and tips, and go be your own Rockstar.

Can You Earn Any Money Without Scentsy Parties?

23 January 2017 By LA Leave a Comment

scentsy without partiesQ: I’m thinking about joining Scentsy. Is it possible to earn $1,000 a month without doing parties?

A: Yes it is possible, but honestly, it’ll take a little hustle to reach your goal. I’ve been with Scentsy over 10 years and I have not done one party, not online and not in person. I did many over the 29 years I’ve been in Direct Sales, however I chose to only work Scentsy online and cash and carry to a handful of locals.

If you are active on social media and are adding fresh content to a blog or youtube channel you can get a decent amount of traffic to your website (webstore). Some consultants do mainly ‘basket parties’ which is essentially a catalog party with scent samples and sometimes a warmer so that the host can experience Scentsy. They do them mainly through the mail to hosts across the country. You can be creative – doing online parties, vendor events, set up displays in local businesses, basket parties, and one on one cash and carry or online sales. Is Your Scentsy Business in a Funk?

20 August 2015 By LA 2 Comments

Is your direct sales business in a funk?Is Your Scentsy Business in a Funk?

Ever hear a fellow consultant say, “I’m in a funk”?

I think we all get the idea of what that means when we hear it.  Basically that something isn’t quite right; nothing seems to be going well; in a slump, right?

Songwriter Steven Greenburg wrote the popular “Funkytown” when he became bored with Minneapolis and wanted to move to New York.   Some of the lyrics go: Well, I talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about, Talk about Talk about movin…” If you don’t remember that song – ask your parents!

Sound Familiar?

When consultants say they nothing is working, it  reminds me of Funkytown. I have had conversations similar to that below more than a few times over the years:

Downline:   Help! Help! I’m in a funk
Me:   Okay, tell me what you’ve been doing that isn’t working
DL:   I can’t get any parties booked and my sales are really down
Me:   What are you saying to potential hosts?
DL:   “Do you want to have a party for me?”

Then we go into a conversation about how hosts don’t do consultants favors.   The consultant has a fabulous product he or she wants to share and give others the opportunity to earn free items.   Actually the consultant is doing the host a favor. It’s an important change in mindset.

Me:   What else are you doing for your business?
DL:   I’ve talked to everyone I know.
Me: What have you said?
DL:   Everyone is broke.

Notice a pattern of evading my questions?

Me:   Have you called your past customers and hosts recently?
DL:   I sent a text.
Me:   Have you called your past customers and hosts recently? Just let them know what the current specials are and tell them that you’re placing an order and ask if you can them anything.
DL:   Oh.

Then months go by and the same consultant contacts me again:

Downline:   Help! Help! I’m in a funk
Me:   Okay, tell me what you’ve been doing that isn’t working since we last spoke.
DL:   I’ve done everything you said and nothing works.
Me:   Oh my! Everything?   Do you meet your goal of talking to three new people a day and give them a sample and catalog?   Have you called all of your past hosts and customers?   Have you asked everyone you know, including family and friends for referrals?   Not for sales, but for referrals – either someone who likes candles or who may be interested in earning some extra income?

Still Me: Have some you done sample test mailings with your catalogs and samples?   How many business cards have you given out this month?   Have you blogged regularly? How about writing some articles?   Did you read any books on search engine optimization?   Are you contributing to social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Snapchat, Tumblr, Instagram, LinkedIn and others?

Still Me: Have you created or outsourced the design for an external website?   Did you try to get incoming links? Is the text on your replicated website current?   Have you approached businesses about setting up a display? Have you located and participated in any Vendor Events?   Have you attended any of the telecons, webinars or meetings?   Are you planning to go to convention or the regional training?   Do you have a decal or magnet on your car?   Have you approached any organizations about doing a fundraisers?   Have you done any target marketing?   Have you defined your niche?   Have you considered your unique selling proposition? Have you created any videos, slideshows or podcasts?

Yup, Still Me: Do you carry your products and recruiting information with you everywhere you go? Either in your purse or available in the vehicle? Have you offered any contest prizes or donations to anyone?   How many samples have you handed out this month?   How much time a week do you spend on your business? Have you phoned anyone within the last three months for help or accountability?   Have you written down your short and long term goals?   Do you have a vision board? Are you working just your immediate geographic area or are you going nationwide and international in your effort?   Have you reread the manual and listened to all of the available training modules?

Mercy, you’ve done ALL OF THAT, and you’re still in a funk? Eek.  Have you considered that perhaps Direct Sales isn’t for you if you’ve done everything listed above and still can’t get one sale?

Reality Check

Okay, yes perhaps there is a little sarcasm there and no, I would never barrage a downline member like that. Well not all at once anyway! And I’d do it nicely while offering support.

I think you get the point. If your business truly is in a funk, try some of the suggestions above.   You should be able to see some improvement.   Or if you keep saying that “you’re in a funk” but cannot honestly say that you’ve done EVERYTHING, then it’s time to step out of your comfort zone and get out of Funkytown!

Don’t just talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about it, Talk about, Talk about Talk about movin“¦   Instead actually GET Movin!
