Most people join direct sales to have fun and to save a little or earn a little extra money.
Being casual and a part time or person use seller with direct sales is perfectly okay. That’s what most consultants do.
Did you know that 2% or less of the consultants in direct sales hit top leadership ranks? It’s not because they can’t or that it’s too difficult. It’s generally because that was never their goal.
People join direct sales for a season. Some stick around 3, 6 or 9 months. Others stay a consultant for a few years. And some make a full-time career with their DS business.
No one is a failure
I’ve been in direct sales almost 30 years. I’ve seen a lot in this industry. One of the saddest misunderstandings I see is consultants feeling like a failure.
Some sponsors feel like a failure because their team members quit.
Some consultants feel like a failure because they quit something they were once excited about.
Being a direct sales consultant has many benefits – one being that it’s easy to get into. Because it’s easy to join a DS company, it’s equally as easy for some to walk away. That’s okay. It has nothing to do with being a failure.
For a season
Everyone joins direct sales for a season. Some seasons are longer than others. If you’ve ever lived in Michigan you know that our winter season seems to go on and on and on. It’s that way for independent consultants too, some seasons last longer than others.
When I joined my first direct selling company in 1988 I never dreamed thirty years later I’d still be doing it. When I joined Scentsy in 2006, I joined for personal use only. I had no intentions of working it as a business and growing a large organization.
Just Like Cold Stone Ice Cream
When you get Cold Stone ice cream you decide what size you want – Like It, Love It, or Gotta Have It. If you’re trying a new flavor you’re likely to start with a Like It – just to see if you really do like it. Later you may remember how good it was and want just a little more, so you change to a Love It next time. Not that many get a Gotta Have It – have you seen it? It’s a whole lotta ice cream in that one.
The same is true when you become a direct sales consultant. If you’re worried you may get too much pressure from an upline to have more parties or to sell more, then I’d say you’re not with the right sponsor. Or, just make sure you clearly communicate your goals. If you make it clear you’re joining mostly for fun and at this time you have no desire to build a team, any sponsor should respect that and not be all up in your face about anything different.
Scentsy is Fun
Scentsy is only $99 to join in the US (plus $10 shipping & local sales tax). We don’t have a monthly minimum, nor do we have a minimum order amount – meaning if you only wanted to order $15 at a time, you can do that. You’d pay shipping on that, so I’d encourage you to get a little more, but there’s no requirement to do so.
You could join now and be around for our busy holiday season. You can buy from yourself and get commission on your own purchases, and if you wanted, sell to others so you’ll have a debt free Christmas. The choice is yours.
If you ask me, I say you should just do it.
It’s very low risk. Absolute worst-case scenario, you’ll get a starter kit valued at approximately $300 (but only pay $99). You can always melt down your scent testers for personal use. Who knows, you just may decide you love it and want to stick around! Join here.
