Sharing upcoming new products too soon can hurt your Scentsy business.
Scentsy releases new seasonal catalogs in March and September. Consultants are able to see the new catalog in July and purchase them in August to prepare for sales in September, when the new line will available to sell.
Once the new upcoming catalog is shared with consultants they will be understandably excited and distracted. Many will jump the gun and start talking about and promoting new products all over social media that won’t even be available to be in customers’ hands for another two months – since we’re currently in a different seasonal catalog. Most customers don’t like to wait more than a week; asking them to wait two months is a horrible idea.
As a result, both the consultants’ July and August will be sabotaged which means the paycheck they get in August and September will be small, and that’s the time they may want to use the funds for new business supplies or products.
The only time this premature sharing could be beneficial is for booking hosts for the new season. But that should always be done privately anyway. A big social media blast isn’t likely to do much. IF the inclination is to advertise publicly to attract new hosts I would encourage this to be very ambiguous; something like “You’re going to love our new fall line, let’s lock in your party date now.”
When to Mail
I will mail or distribute catalogs so that they land in my customers’ hands on 1 September. I want them to be able to order everything they see in the catalog. If I ask them to look now, then just wait because they can’t order it now, I will have greatly reduced the odds that they will come back and order later.
It IS exciting to see the new products, and hard to keep it to yourself if you see it early. Don’t look so far into the future that you miss all the goodness of the present.
