Follow these 3 steps to be happy –
There’s an old Johnny Soul song that says, “If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life never make a pretty woman your wife. So for my personal point of view get an ugly girl to marry you.”
I don’t embrace Johnny’s philosophy about happiness. Rather I have a different view. It’s quite simple actually:
- Don’t concern yourself with what everyone else is doing. Horses sometimes need to be made to focus and blinders keep the horse’s eye focused on what is ahead, rather than what is at the side or behind. That is why race horses are often given blinders – for the purpose of keeping them focused when racing around a racecourse. Can you imagine how focused and how happy you would be if you weren’t distracted by what others are doing?
- Worry about yourself. If you don’t believe me, take it from two-year old, August.
- Mind your own business. If you can’t mind your own business, then don’t bother with others either. If it doesn’t involve you, then it shouldn’t concern you. I’ve heard some consultants say that what every other consultant is doing concerns them. No. If someone local to you is selling out of a retail location and you’re struggling to get home parties booked, then you could say that behavior does concern you.
However, if you rarely work your business online and you see someone posting a personal special, leave it be. If that consultant wants to dip into profits, so be it. It doesn’t matter if it’s out of compliance or not. There is a compliance department to hand that. Mind your own business and you won’t have time to even know what others are doing.
If for whatever reason, you took the above as being snarky or chastising in any way, please don’t. See the above title, this is called How to be Happy. The three tidbits, which really amount to the same thing, are giving you a tip on achieving that happiness.
Perhaps you need to unfriend and unfollow some people or groups. You can limit your exposure. If you’re pretty sure that reading what others are doing may get under your skin, why would you even want to give way to that unproductive emotion?
When it comes to what others are doing, often ignorance is bliss.
